In grades 4/5 this year, we will be learning about:

Bible - We will be studying the Old Testament, from Genesis through Judges.

Math - We will be learning place value and number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, graphing and data analysis.

Language Arts - This year, our language arts time is divided into reading workshop, writing workshop and word study.  Reading workshop and writing workshop provide ample time for students to work independently at their own level, and receive instruction individually (through conferences), in small groups and as a whole class.  For word study, we follow the Rebecca Sitton program, which emphasizes the importance of learning how to spell words in contest as well as phonics and other aspects of spelling.  We will also be studying an author of the month, including Gordon Korman, Patricia MacLachlan, Lois Sachar, Jerry Spinelli, Kate DiCamillo and others.

Science and Socials 4 - This year, we will be studying space, pioneers, Canada, materials and structure and plants.  We will also be studying geography and mapping.
