Students in grades 2-7 participate in a formal art program each week. (Children in K-1 complete art projects in their classroom that coincide with their themes.)
The formal art curriculum is based on the BC curriculum guides. Throughout the year various art projects are completed using a number of different materials. Some of the favorites include paper mache, clay, and paint. Some projects are more “art” oriented while others are more “craft” oriented. Students are also expected to complete a sketch book each term. In addition to the projects, each year we study a few artists and create art in their style.
In the spring, all students in the program have much of their art featured in the School Art Show that happens along with Student-Led Conferences and Grandparents Day. This is a time to celebrate each child's’ talents, hard work, and skills.
